Sickbed Nightmare

Aalto University, 2026-10-06

Sickbed Nightmare is an interactive black-and-white generative artwork created with WebGL and GLSL. It is based on my memory of unusual nightmares that I sometimes experience when I am ill, in which abstract forms repeat, move, expand, contract, and transform in highly symmetrical ways.

The work develops these memories through a series of repeating visual structures. It combines capsule-like motifs, radial forms inspired by Marjorie Rice’s pentagonal tilings, and different arrangements developed through experiments with repetition and symmetry.

The patterns rotate continuously, and the repeating motifs drift, tilt, and subtly pulse with different timing. Interaction allows the viewer to move deeper into or further away from the repeating field.

This artwork was developed alongside a short research essay investigating fever dreams, geometric visual hallucinations, symmetry, and recurring visual patterns.
